Ansu Fati: Future Barcelona Superstar

Ansu Fati is a professional footballer who plays as a left winger for FC Barcelona. He was born in Bissau, Guinea Bissau but plays for the Spanish national football team. Ansu and his family moved from Guinea Bissau to Spain when he was 6 years old. Ansu was also eligible to represent Portugal.
Fati’s Club career
Ansu Fati made his Barcelona debut in August 2019 against Real Betis after he came off the bench to replace Carles Perez. He was aged 16 years and 298 days when he made his Barcelona debut. Later that month, Ansu scored his first goal for Barcelona against Osasuna. In doing so, he became FC Barcelona’s youngest ever goalscorer. In September 2019, Ansu featured for the first time in a UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund thus being the youngest footballer to play in the competition for the club. A few months later, he scored against Inter Milan at the San Siro in the same competition. In the process, he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the UEFA Champions League. Ansu Fati has made 33 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions in the 2019-20 season scoring 8 times and providing 1 assist. For the 2020-21 season, Ansu was promoted to the first team. His new contract includes a €400 million buyout clause. His jersey number was 31 during the 19-20 season. For the 20-21 season, it is 22.
Fati’s International career
Ansu Fati made his international debut for Spain against Germany in the UEFA Nations League in September 2020. He scored his first international goal for the team against Ukraine a few days later thus becoming Spain’s youngest ever goalscorer at 17 years and 311 days.
Fati’s Playing Style
Ansu Fati is a left winger who moves into channels and likes to cut inside from the left flank. According to Football Manager 2020, Ansu’s strengths are his agile movement, his flair, his dribbling ability, his ability to accelerate and his technical ability on the ball. He is capable of playing as an Inverted Winger or an Inside Forward. The teenager can hug the touchline to provide width and stretch the opposition to open up spaces in the centre. He can also cut inside to provide space for a full back to make overlapping runs. Despite his skills and talents, he does have one chink in his armour. It is his heavy touch, especially with his weaker foot. Occasionally, this would leave Barcelona vulnerable to counterattacks by the opposition. But at just 17 years old, he has lots of time to improve in this area.
Conclusion
Fati is an exciting winger who has come through the ranks of La Masia. Finally, the club have a potential superstar who has come through the youth ranks. Replacing Lionel Messi is no easy task for the club. But Fati is not here to replace Messi. He is here to create his own reputation. And with guidance from the 6-time Ballon D’or winner, Ansu is sure to succeed at Barcelona and Spain.
